Secrets to SMARTA Goal Setting Success

A coach will help you achieve more with the SMART approach to goal setting
This is my first blog post in a while, so I chose a subject close to my heart, how to achieve.

We've all done it. Set a new years resolution or goal with the best intention and then as the days and weeks go by the goal gets forgotten.

Statistically only 45% make it to six months, then only 9% feel like they succeeded.

The good news is there is a not so Secret to setting and achieving goals I'll reveal shortly, read on for a summary of a survey by Statistic Brain...
The study showed that:

  • 41% usually make new years resolutions
  • 17% occasionally do
  • 42% never do, amazing isn't it

It was seen that the goals were broken up as follows:

  • 44% had self improvement and education goals
  • 42% were money related
  • 32% were weight related
  • 22% had relationship challenges

Only 9% felt they were successful!

Now for Some Good News...

Get started today.

The not so secret to effective goal setting is by being SMARTA about it, and action, massive persistent action towards your target. That's simple isn't it, or is it? Well it can be, let me give you some great information to help you achieve more.

SMARTA goal setting is an enhanced model for anyone to use to get things done. When done smartly and with the added framework I'm about to give you, its highly effective.

SMARTA is an acronym for

S - Specific

M - Measurable

A - Attainable

R - Relevant

T - Timely

A - Action, Massive Action

So Let me explain these steps to really give you the information

S - Specific

What specifically do you want to achieve? The more specific your representation, the bigger the chance you'll get exactly that.

Questions you may ask yourself are:

  • What exactly do I want to achieve?https://mailchi.mp/9c41183552dd/lm6u61cak3

  • Where?
  • How?
  • When?
  • With whom?
  • What are the conditions and limitations?
  • Why exactly do I want to reach this goal? What are the alternative ways of achieving the same?

M - Measureable

Questions you may ask yourself are:
  • If you follow these tips you will break through any blocks,
  • Your goals should be Specific, very specific. If its for a car for example, what make, what model, colour, engine, interior etc..?
  • When do you want it to happen by? which date? which day?
  • Does having this goal fit well with you and those around you?

A - Attainable

Questions you may ask yourself are:
  • Do you need to get new skills, abilities or equipment first?
  • Do you have the resources currently to achieve this goal?
  • Is this goal truly important to you?
  • Does having this goal fit well with you and those around you?

R - Relevant

Questions you may ask yourself are:
  • Is achieving this goal relevant to your situation or where you want to be?
  • Do you really want this goal, and all the requirements it will bring?
  • Really ask yourself WHY this goal is important to you?
  • Does having this goal fulfil the objective of achieving it?
Questions you may ask yourself are:
  • Is the time scale you have chosen realistic, is it flexible?
  • What would happen if an unexpected event occurs?
  • Really ask yourself can you achieve this goal in the time you have allowed?

A - Action

Questions you may ask yourself are:
  • What steps can I take right now towards my goal?
  • how will I manage any obstacles?
  • How can I keep track of my progress?
  • How good can I feel each step of the way?
Get started today.

Now that we have laid down the framework there is one more thing that helps you to achieve quickly, and that is feeling really good about moving forwards each step of the way.

Design yourself an action plan, massive action, start by creating steps to you goal, is each step SMARTA?

Put appointments and milestones into your diary, onto your pc, set reminders, while recalling times you felt really good and when you achieved things in the past.

Create a vision board, put it on the wall where you can see it every day

I have clients who put photos and post-it notes on their fridges to remind them and keep on track.

Now its time to write it all down. Give yourself permission to think outside the box, after all the box is only a figment of your imagination, so use your imagination to set and plan effectively, be honest with yourself and make a plan.

To begin with, write down lots of goals, then select the most important one to achieve first.

Then its just a matter of action... MASSIVE ACTION... A goal without action is just a dream, and dreams only happen when we are asleep and the world passes us by.

What is the one thing you can do right now to get things moving? Remember you have a deadline!

Are you ready to take action and set, achieve and enjoy smart goals?
